Send version attribute with XMPP traffic
Idea shared by Joe Davis - 4/24/2014 at 8:23 PM
Completed
Hi,

We are using Bria Softphone to connect to our VOIP. Bria uses the Gloox library for XMPP which is rather strict about the XMPP implementation. It requires, as does the RFC, that the XMPP version number is sent with the stream replies. I am getting this error when trying to connect to SmarterMail Chat with Bria.
  • This server is not XMPP-compliant (it does not send a 'version' attribute). Please fix it or try another one.
Considering the RFC technically requires this, would SmarterMail add the version attribute to the stream traffic?

Thanks,
Joe

We'll certainly look into it. Just please understand that RFCs are guidelines and not technical specifications or requirements and that some RFC implementation can prevent implementation of other features and may require additional changes. While I doubt that's the case in this situation, I just wanted to mention it.

I am adding this proposal to our future feature request list for further consideration and possible implementation.

After further review with the dev. team, we will be implementing this request in the next minor update.

We have added the version to the XMPP stream.  It will be included in the next SmarterMail 13 minor update.  Additionally, XMPP now uses SASL authenication and has TLS capability.
