Spool Training folder Ham/Spam
Question asked by Jay Altemoos - 1/9/2024 at 9:27 AM
Unanswered
How often is Smartermail cleaning these folders on it's own? We started using these folders for manual training for Spamassassin-in-a-box and looking at the folder today I only have messages in each for today only and no other day. I did have messages in there from previous reports a few days ago when I instructed users to report spam or not spam emails.

How do I tell Smartermail not to clean either of these folders or at the very least to clean it weekly so I can train our spam filter software.

We are running Build 8747 Enterprise.

They are kept in that folder for only a couple minutes. It was originally designed for use in an active monitoring system kinda like our spool. This folder could potentially get very large otherwise. I could maybe see expanding some of the options on some of this.

Good day Matt,

Thank you for the clarification. With Spamassassin-in-a-box they have a batch file for manual training that needs the path to the folder manually fed to it each time you run it. I cannot babysit these folders all day just to make sure I can train our spam filter effectively. How am I supposed to train our spam filter effectively otherwise?

Another question here, what is the time frame that the files are removed from both those folders? A thought I had was devise a script of sorts that would look at both those folders every few minutes and grab a copy of what was in there and paste it elsewhere. That way I can have a copy of what was in there but i need to know how often files are deleted from within those folders so i can plan for the Windows scheduler to run my script.

Let me know.

Thank you.

Have the script set to execute every 5 minutes and should be good. We clean every 5 minutes but messages must exist for atleast 2 minutes before they are cleaned. So there is a chance you could see the same messages on two 5 minute cycles.

Good morning Matt,
Thank you for that information. I greatly appreciate that. I will probably script something like Robocopy to copy the files into another folder for training.
