NO "Run Content Filtering" Command?
Question asked by Walt Wise - 11/27/2023 at 10:49 PM

I use Smartermail Version: 16.3.6989 through my Web Host - Viux. In the Smartermail "Online Help" it says regarding “Manual Content Filtering” - “It's possible to run a content filter on a specific folder simply by selecting the folder name and the selecting Run Content Filter from the Actions menu icon that appears at the bottom of the SmarterMail interface. (It's to the right of the folders icon.)”

HOWEVER, There is no “Actions Menu" Icon at the bottom of Smartermail?? The “Folders” icon is there but the only thing to the right of that is the used %...?  There IS an "Actions Menu" at the right end of the blue buttons near the top right above the emails list, but there is NO "Run Content Filter" command there...?

Viux is telling me that the "new version of Smartermail does not have this feature".  Seems odd that the "Online Help" would explain a feature no longer there...even stranger that such a useful feature would be removed?

Hi, Walt

I can assure you that the ability to manually run content filters IS in the most recent version of SmarterMail. This screenshot is actually from the Oct. 11 Build of SmarterMail, this account just doesn't have any content filters to actually run:

I'd suggest you talk to Viux and let them know that there's a LOT in the latest version -- and MUCH more on the way as we're currently in BETA for the next version of SmarterMail -- that 16.x is missing.

The issue is on Viux: they need to update AT LEAST to the latest stable version v.8664 (16.3.6989 is an OLD version, and many new features and bug fixes are waiting on the newest... Not mentioning the new BETA...)

Thank you both for responding! Unfortunately I’m not surprised that the problem is with Viux. I’ve been with them for 15 years and overall the service has been at least adequate and the price has stayed very good (read cheap) for my 2 mostly reference websites. However, the last couple months they have been switching to the AWS system and it was nothing but headaches. Email constantly going down…websites down for 13 days at one stretch! Countless support tickets opened…11 just to tell them email for my domain was down AGAIN! Things are working consistently now, but I have to say I’m not very impressed with their technical acumen and as I said, I’m not surprised that the fault in this case is on them. I sent them screenshots of your posts and I’d REALLY like to be able to run content filters in realtime on existing email folders, so MAYBE they’ll update and fix the problem? Who knows? LOL Thanks again for the info…

If they are moving to AWS, they will want to move to our latest .NET 8 release which is much more CPU, Memory, and Disk I/O friendly.  The production release is coming VERY soon!
