emClient and synchronization frequency
Question asked by Mark Thornton - 11/7/2023 at 4:16 PM

I have noticed working with emClient that messages appear significantly after they arrive in webmail or on my android phone. Does the MAPI connection not support PUSH feature for the messages? Do we have to depend on the synchronization feature like the old days with POP3 access?

eM Client uses EWS, IMAP or POP3.  Each of those protocols work differently and can push differently.  IMAP has an Idle command that is used to send notifications.  EWS has a method for notifications.  POP3 is on intervals determined by the client.

Hmmm, I thought emClient was MAPI. I'm assuming I am connected via EWS then, and I will watch the performance today. Yesterday I had noticed twice that messages appeared in emClient more than 5 minutes later than appeared on my phone and the web app. Normally that isn't a big issue except I seem to deal with folks that want to wait on the phone to verify I got their email. Then starts the waiting, firing up the admin portal to look at the smtp logs to see if they are even hitting the server, tapping my foot, getting coffee, ...

The only MAPI client is Outlook for Windows, even Outlook for Mac uses EWS.

The only MAPI mail servers are Exchange and SmarterMail.

eM Client has done a ton of work to integrate with SmarterMail which makes for an amazing experience, even more so than Outlook with Exchange/SmarterMail.  In addition, eM Client has integrated at every level and protocol (EWS, IMAP, DAV and API's).

Hello Tim,
using EM client for iphone and android (when they are in production) don't need EAS for mobile?

Cordial greetings
