Errors when connecting shared calendar in outlook
Problem reported by Rudolf Lindinger - 10/8/2023 at 7:14 AM
Being Fixed
Hello community, i have the following problem:
if i connect a shared calendar in outlook per url (webcal), then i get a lot of errors when syncing.
It seems that there are errors with the timezone. it does not matter, if i make the appointment in webmail or in outlook connected per MAPI to the mailbox.
For testing i made a new appointment in outlook (MAPI) and then switched to another outlook profile, where the calendar is connected per URL. The errors are the same. In EMClient i do not get any errors.
In Smartermail i selected the timezone UTC +1 from the dropdown, so this normally should work.

Another big problem: There are no file attachments shown when connected per Internet Calendar (webcal)!
In webmail i can see them (but cannot upload) and when connected per MAPI i also can see them.

Any ideas?
Regards
Rudolf

Hello, I think you should double-check the timezone settings in both Outlook and the webcal URL source. Make sure they are consistent and set to the correct timezone. If there is a mismatch, it can lead to synchronization errors. Additionally, ensure that the operating system's time and date settings are accurate.

Hello Rudolf

What version do you have running?

Hello Rudolph! I wasn't able to replicate the timezone errors you're seeing in my own testing under UTC+1 so we may need to get a ticket opened with you to investigate further.

I was able to replicate this attachment concern, so I'm going to ask our development team if this is expected or not. I wasn't able to find confirmation that webcal supports or doesn't support webcal, so I'll do some comparison testing beforehand and will escalate a request as necessary.

Hello Guy, i checked all three timezone settings:

Windows:

Outlook:

Smartermail:
So there is always the same timezone.
I also use emclient via EWS. emclient uses timezone from windows - so there is no option to change it.
in emclient there are no errors syncing the calendar (but it is bound via ews and not webcal).

Actually Rudolph, scratch that! I didn't see any errors on my existing appointments, but once I added a new one I was able to replicate. I'll get this escalated to development now.

I was able to check in with development on attachments in webcal and confirmed this is not supported at this time. I recommend proposing this as an idea here in our community so other users/administrators can comment and vote on the suggestion. This helps garner support for feature requests when our Product Management team reviews further. I also escalated a bug report involving the timezone issues you're seeing. Thanks Rudolph!

Hey Rudolph good afternoon! I just wanted to let you know I just finished testing fixes for the webcal sync issues involving the UTC+1 timezone and these issues have been resolved. These fixes will be made available in our next beta release.

Please note however that webcal is a read-only protocol and so additions of events to these shared calendars via the webcal mechanism are not supported and won't sync back to the server. For full calendar synchronization functionality I recommend testing a trial of our MAPI protocol. Please don't hesitate to ping me if you have any questions. Have a good one!
