501 Syntax error

Hi,
After uprate to SM 8552 begin to get some SMTP errors on automated mail sent from some of our clients routines that were working for years.
I get this SMTP error, does anybody know why ?

rsp: 501 Syntax error, syntax: "MAIL FROM:" "<" address ">" / "<>" [SP Mail-parameters] CRLF

The mail from address is supposed to be in angle brackets, and the specification is apparently now being enforced. source application needs to become standards compliant.
