Cyren Anti-spam and antivirus services are going to be restored on the 22nd of May, according to their status page at the link below;

Will SmarterTools be keeping Cyren in SmarterMail once the service is restored?

And will Smartermail sign the new agreement with Data443 so the customers who paid for cyren can still use it for the licensed time?

I wonder if with the acquisition by data443 it can go back to being a renewable anti-spam system that can be used in the long term

According to an article on ISMG's website, bankinfosecurity.com, written by Michael Novinson on May 17, 2023;  "Data443's revenue plummeted in 2022 due to economic uncertainty and some products shifting from one-time license sales with annual maintenance contract renewals to time-based subscriptions, which resulted in fewer customers paying for subscriptions or renewals. Sales sank to $2.6 million, down 27.2% from $3.6 million the year prior, while net loss surged from $6.5 million in 2021 to $9.7 million in 2022."

Therefore, the sale of Cyren to Data443 may NOT be the solution that the community was hoping for. I would hope that SmarterTools leadership understand that we need additional options soonest.

I would also think that SmarterTools has a good bargaining position Data443 to negotiate a deal that lowers our costs or gets us a one-time discount on the next renewal.

In addition, I was not aware of this issue at all until I saw this thread and started doing my own research. I'm sure a lot more folks would be upset to learn that eMail filtering is not as good as could be.

No it's not an issue with ESEt. There really was a malware on data443 website. The link to their FAQ about the acquisition redirected me to a p0rn site.

After a bit of analysis of the content of their site, it turns out they were using Elementor templating system on WorpdPress for their site and there was a known exploit on the version they were using.

I reported it to them and after a few hours the malware disappeared from their pages.

Of course this can happen to anybody, but well, It doesn't generate an high level of trust when it affects spam/virus/malware "specialists" own websites. "We'll protect you while we can't even protect ourselves..." feeling.

Kind regards.

Thanks Sebastien, so ESET wasn't wrong 😅
Like you said, that doesn't sound great for a cybersecurity company.
