User Can't Login - directory name invalid
Question asked by kevind - 12/29/2022 at 10:15 AM
I have a user who can't sign into webmail. When I look at the Error logs, I see:

Exception: System.IO.IOException: The directory name is invalid.
MailboxManager Exception in GetMailbox. Path: con. calls Root:

Same thing when I try to impersonate the user. Get red box in bottom right with "The directory name is invalid"

Any suggestions how to fix?  Thanks!

Thanks Kevind! Since you're not seeing any IDS blocks, can you check the Error logs to see if you see any entries noting this user account? I suspect they may have a corrupt folders.json or folders-xxxx.json. Worst case though you should be able to restore a backup copy of the bad file from the user's Archived Data folder if that is the case.

Looking at the exception "Path: con." I think this user has a reserved folder name for one of their folders. Can you review the folders and see if this is there. If this is there you will want to remove it from the users folders.json file.

stop the service
edit the file
start the service back up.

Thank you

@Kyle, we restored a backup file of folders.json and that didn't make any difference.

@Tony, yes, there was a "con. calls" folder listed in folders.json, but that didn't exist in the folder structure. So we will remove it from the .json file. Is there any way to get it to take effect without stopping/starting the service?
