Option to Open Image/PDF Attachments in Browser
Idea shared by Jim Rosemary - 10/3/2022 at 1:52 PM
Under Consideration
We've heard from a number of webmail users who are frustrated by having to download attachments in order to view them.  I understand this should be the case for any attachments that require software on the user's machine in order to view them (like a Word doc or an AutoCAD file).  But it would be very handy if users had an option to view attachments like images (GIF, JPG, PNG, WEBP) or PDF's directly in the browser.  Can this be implemented in a future release?

Hello Jim,

We do have this on our radar for a future release. Thank you

I just upvoted this as well, we have clients that would like this feature. I know you won't be able to give an exact time frame on this, do we know if this is on the roadmap for this year?

I just switched a customer who was on M365 to SM and their first question was why is it so complicated to open an attachment when in the webmail interface. It needs to be downloaded, then opened from there. Why can't it just open directly from the server into the viewing app, whichever it may be, including a new tab in the browser (or pop-up). PDF, PNG, JPG, etc., can all be opened directly in the browser. Please add this to a near-future release, or I'll never hear the end of this one.

Hello,

I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but we recently added the ability to preview attachments with OnlyOffice. We also made the attachment images larger so that they are more useful.

Kind Regards,
