Does SmarterMail have the means to "Journal" (save all email off-site)?
Question asked by Steve Guluk - 9/15/2022 at 2:01 PM
Answered
I have a client that has paid for a backup service off-site.
They are asking to create a journaling rule that collects all of their domains email at

Apparently they are expecting incoming, outgoing as well as internal emails to be saved.

I've reviewed the Archiving feature and I do have the Enterprise version of SmarterMail.

Is it possible to offload email backups to an outside service?

Hey Steve,

Thanks for reaching out to the SmarterTools community. Where there is a will there is a way. Create these two rules for incoming and outgoing and set the add recipient to email  b4085084c89a07c87ea5013ba2a44171@84386.journal.archive.zixcentral.com

When the email is sent, it looks like this for both parties.

They wouldn't even be able to tell that their email was also sent to an archived email.

If you can't read the images right-click them and either save them or copy the URL and paste it into the URL bar in your browser to make them bigger.

Please let me know if this helps.

Hi ZACH!

A question: are this rules working even for INTERNAL mail (to and from internal users of the same SmarterMail server and domain) and if they are using MAPI / EWS / EAS protocols?

Hello,

Thanks for the question. This system level event should work for all the protocols and for internal communications. That's how I got that header after all, I sent an inner domain email.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

Thanks Zach!
I created the 2 Events for the target domain and everything looks like it should achieve our goal perfectly.
