It would be nice to make SmarterMail compatible with various backup software that have the option of connecting and backing up MS Exchange On-Premise (example: Iperius, Nakivo, Uranium, etc ...)

Exchange has a Microsoft-proprietary database as its core, while SmarterMail is based on the Windows file system.   The technology behind those two backup methods are complex and radically different.  Backup is too important to attempt a risky emulation.

Hi Douglas!

I know that, and I have no issue to backup SmarterMail server on my own.

BUT SmarterMail lacks a user side tool to give users self service backup-and-restore capabilities, like other 3party tools have for MS Exchange.

This is the meaning of my question.

Can this be implemented in the new SmarterMail beta?

Hey Gabriele,

Thanks for reaching out to the community with this request.
Do you think you can expand a bit on your idea so I can submit a feature request?

Here is how I would think it would work.

Domain admins would be able to download copies of user accounts and then attach them to their own domain.

Is that the kind of feature that you're looking for?

Please elaborate a little on exactly what you want SmarterMail to do then I can get a feature request put in.  😃
One thing to note is that SmarterMail already integrates with some backup providers that work with exchange. For example, SmarterMail Beta currently works with Mailstore.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kind Regards,

I think Gabriele is more looking for a direct integration between SmarterMail and backup solutions like Veeam or similar, so backups and retention aren't a separate job that has to be maintained. Am I on the right track here?

Thanks for the clarification.
I've escalated this request by adding it to the product backlog. When the product management team goes through the planning stages for new feature Builds, they use the items in the backlog as the basis for that planning. Therefore, this request will be revisited and re-evaluated in the future.

Thanks for your feedback and for helping us make our products better!

We run a real time synchronization between 2 drives (prod and backup) and then a 24hr full clone cycle via Vmware and Virtualcenter.

That way you dont need to invest in backup software and its automated running on a fixed schedule.
