We are running on Azure and it all depends on your usage.

With about 400 domains and 12,000 users, we are running the D series VM with 32 Gig of Ram. Plus add 2 terabytes of disk. Plus add bandwidth. Plus backups.

We average approx $600-$800 a month for this particular solution.

Once you've found your sweet spot, take advantage of reservations so you can prepay your VM for 3 years at a lower rate.

You're using a more robust server than I would probably need. I have a dedicated server currently that only costs $500 per month with Cisco Firewall and daily backups. I know this is relatively inexpensive but the "cloud" might be able to get my costs down... I guess the only way to find out is to migrate SM and some websites and see what I get billed.
