Retry Intervals
Idea shared by Sabatino - 6/22/2021 at 9:33 AM
Completed
The default retry values for the spool are
1, 5, 5, 15, 30, 30, 30, 30, 60, 90, 120, 240, 480, 960, 1440, 2880

which means to have the message spooled for 4.45 days if there is a problem with delivery to the target smtp server

In this period, the sender thinks that he has sent the message and that it has been delivered

I personally have changed into
1, 5, 5, 15, 30, 30, 30, 30, 60, 90, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 180, 240, 360, 480, 600

so as not to exceed 2 days before sending the bounce message to the sender

But I believe that further implementation would also be needed.

Message Worning to sender after xx hour in spool

Like:
4 hours have passed and I am trying to deliver the xxxx message but I have not succeeded yet, I will keep trying.

And maybe repeat it every xx hours the worning, until the attempts are finished in which case the classic bounce is sent to the sender

Hello Xabaras,

Thanks for being a community member. This is an interesting idea. What would the message say to the user? Would it say like Message Delayed? Please let me know what you think. I think this would be better as an event Type. You can currently set it to send a notifacation for when the spool reaches a certain count however, there is no event type for Spool message age. If the user did get this message there isnt really anything that they could do except contact their system administator. So thats why I think this would be better as a system event because then the system administator can do somthing about it.
Please let me know what you think.

Sure,
might say
Late message

We are trying to deliver your message, but we are currently unable to deliver it because:

and usually it is
1) destination box full
2) destination server is not responding

We will keep trying again, if we fail to deliver the message we will send you an additional notice

....

The problem is that notifying the administrator I don't know if it solves the problem. So what can the administrator do? Immediately generate the bounce to the sender?

I believe that it is important to let the sender know that the message is being delayed and what is the cause (which usually depends on the destination).

However, if you want to notify the administrator it would be one more thing.

However, I would like to point out that the logging system is not adequate.
If I see a blank message in the spool to see why I have to:
1) write down the number of the message
2) go to the logs
3) search by message number

I think it is absolutely useful to put a direct link from the spool that opens the log directly

Hey Xabaras,

Thanks for the quick response. That is not the only way to find the message you can also copy the recipient's email address and search the delivery log once you find the message you can copy the session-id search it and select display related traffic and it will tell you everything about the message.

Please let me know if this helps. I'm going to go ahead and open a ticket for a feature request to create a system level event that will notify the administator and user of a message stuck in the spool.

My request will look like the following.

Ability to create a system level event that will notify the user and administator of a message stuck in a spool after x amount of time. Please let me know if this matches the criteria that you are looking for.

Hey Xabaras,

Just an update I believe that we already have the user notification feature.
If you go to Settings->General->Spool Card You can set the notify senders of delay after (attempts).
If you set it to 3 it will default notify the user after 11 minutes.
Please let me know if this helps.

It was under my eyes and I didn't see it. I have to go on vacation. What message arrives at the sender? Why isn't it in the system messages?

about the log I wonder why all these operations? why it is not possible to put a direct link that opens the log in the correct position

Hey Xabaras,

Thanks for getting back to me. That would be a cool feature like a view logs link in the spool. But currently, we are in the process of revamping our logging system so everything will be changing. Once that task is complete if that still isn't added then we could submit that as a feature request. Regarding the Delay, it should say the following.
"The server(s) that the message "test" is attempting to be sent to has temporarily delayed the delivery for the following recipient(s)"
