MAPI Resource Sharing
Question asked by Todd Hunter - 4/8/2021 at 10:32 AM
Answered
We have a client that wants to share resources, calendar, Contacts etc.

We have setup a Domain Shared Calendar.

When I follow the KB here

When I get to the section to ADD Account the button is Greyed out.

I have another email on the same server in a different domain and the button is Not Greyed out.

We tried this on diffrent desktops with different domains and some the buttoms are working and others they are greyed.

We are on the current build of SmarterMail.  Accounts are both setup as Exchange.  We teseted using Outlook 2016 and 2019 with same results.

Need some guidance.

Todd

Hi Todd,

I did some testing and this is what I've found:

If you have the two different accounts configured in the same Outlook, and they are using the same profile, only the first MAPI account you added to Outlook will allow you to use that advanced setting and connect user shared resources. You would need to create a separate profile for each account you have in Outlook to access this option for both accounts. I'm going to open a support ticket on your behalf so we can get this escalated.

Morning Emily,

Thank you for the update.  Please keep us posted. This is something we need to get functional for our clients.  While everyone may have 2 MAPI accounts, some will.  I am sure you understand we cannot provide a solution that will work for a portion of theire staff, but not all.

Todd

I've received a quick update from development on this today and wanted to reach out here to give you an outline of our next steps on this. First, we did confirm these issues are stemming from the fact that there are multiple MAPI accounts within a single Outlook profile, as only the first MAPI account added will be capable of opening/mapping shared resources. This issue has been escalated and is being reviewed/worked by our development team at this time.

With that being said, you can work around this by utilizing separate Outlook profiles for each MAPI account. This is done by opening Control Panel>Mail in Windows, then clicking the Profiles option towards the bottom, and configuring the settings there to prompt you which profile you'd like to load on each startup. Finally, separate your two MAPI accounts into their own profiles and you should then be able to open shared resources as expected. Please keep an eye out for release notes on the long term fix as well. Have a good one!
