Mac Mail Inline Images (v7719)
Problem reported by Liam Dwyer - 2/24/2021 at 9:58 AM
Resolved
I have updated to the latest version on 21st Feb.
SmarterMail Enterprise
Build 7719 (Feb 18, 2021)

Since the update, Mac Mail (connecting via EWS) is no longer displaying inline images; they are just displaying as placeholders.  Viewing the exact same message in Outlook displays correctly, as does displaying the message in the Webmail interface.

From the Webmail interface if I view the RAW Content of the message this is how the image file is shown.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with Mac Mail since updating SmarterMail?

Thanks

Update: I setup a new IMAP account in Mac Mail for the same mailbox and the inline images are displaying correctly.

Hello,
I've confirmed this issue is happening with emails containing inline attachments on Mac Mail with EWS. I will be working this issue tonight/tomorrow morning. I should hopefully have some more news tomorrow about this issue.

We've got a fix in place for this issue. It will be in our next build.

Hello Matt,

Glad to hear this issue will be resolved in next build which we'll be out anytime soon hopefully.

Can this issue also affect "not" inline attachments with EWS ?

Two customers opened an issue about attachments being corrupted on "Mail.app, macOS 11.2" (which uses EWS if I'm not wrong) but are okay on their iPhone (they use EAS if i'm not wrong again).

Just asking before going too deep troubleshooting the issue.

Thanks

Yes, this would technically affect any attachment that wasn't a "Content-Type: text/*". Basically anything that wasn't text in the email or a text based attachment could get incorrectly malformed.

Okay, thank you for the detailed infos.
We'll try to ask the customers to wait until we are able to install the next build.
Kind regards
