SmartMail on Azure VM
Question asked by Nick Buckland - 10/4/2020 at 7:29 AM

This is a bit of a dumb question, I should know the answer but dearnt remove it on a live system.....
I know that running a bespoke website on Azure requires me to add SendGrid as an Azure resource, and this resource handles authentication etc to SendGrid.
But if I run SM in a VM on Azure, do I need the SendGrid resource? SM has the SendGrid connection credentials, so the Azure SendGrid resource in this case is redundent isnt it?
I added the SendGrid resouce to Azure purley out of habbit from when I had written sites from scratch.

Hey Nick,

Thanks for posting to the community.
You do not need the SendGrid component for SmarterMail to work.
Just be aware that by default Azure blocks port 25 so you need to contact them to have them unblock the port if you're having sending issues.
Please let me know if this helps.

May be you can have Port 587 Configured for sending out if port 25 is blocked.
