Letsencrypt for multiple domains and MAPI
Question asked by Patrick Mattson - 6/29/2020 at 7:33 AM

I upgraded to the newer version of SmarterMail and looking forward to using MAPI.

Currently we have about 100 domains using the server and learned from reading each domain needs its own SSL cert.

Has anyone used Let's Encrypt to create an SSL for each domain? Currently I have one SSL cert created pointing to my website and the settings for clients to use, example: mail.mailserver.zzz, my clients can go to the website or set up SSL and TLS connections to my server. Now I need to add a cert for mail.domain1.yyy, mail.domain2.yyy, etc

I am thinking in theory I can create a similar SSL cert for each domain, but did not want to break my current mail cert.

We are looking to do it, but the issue is that the autodiscover has a single hostname for ALL protocols, we cannot override the hostname per protocol so that we can enforce our SSL for non-http-based protocols and allow their hostname for EWS, EAS and MAPI / webmail.

Try this link
Worked for us...
Multi domains in one cert...

Yeah, that works perfectly, unless you are hosting many many thousands of domains. The other issue is privacy, a lot of our customers wouldnt go for a multi-domain cert.

You can still create a single cert for each domain and manage them in one location...

Yeah you can, however... see my original post above.

seems like a perfect solution for getting SSL to the number of domain. Helpful information.

Cheers,
