Messages Not Marked As Read
Problem reported by ScottF - 4/15/2020 at 10:56 AM
Resolved
We're running Build 7405.

After viewing several messages in webmail from the preview pane and then deleting them, the messages go into Deleted Items as Unread.

Here's how to reproduce:

  1. Go to webmail and mark about five messages at the top of the Inbox message list as unread
  2. Select the first message at the top of the Inbox message list
  3. Select Delete to delete the first message
  4. The next unread message should be in the preview pane. Select Delete.
  5. Delete a few more.
Even though the messages have been viewed in the preview pane, they are placed in Deleted Items as unread. I could not reproduce this behavior with SM 15.x. Thank you.

Yes, if you click on the message, it gets marked as Read which is good.

But if the new message gets selected some other way (because you delete the current message), then the next message never gets marked as Read.

These issue have been addressed in the upcoming BETA release of SmarterMail.

Saw this in the release notes from this week:
FIXED: The automatic 'mark as read' functionality which occurs when the next unread email is highlighted in the message list was inconsistent between message moves and deletes.
But the problem is not entirely fixed. When you pop-out a message from the preview pane, and then delete it, the next message does not get marked as read.

Idea: When you're on a message, display the preview, then wait 1 second and mark it as read.  That's what some programs do, like eM Client. It works well and is really nice.

Thank you for the update! This has been corrected in SmarterMail BETA Build 7457. When you delete or move a message in its popout window, the next unread message in the list will be automatically marked as read.
