How far is the development of MAPI support?
Question asked by Gabriele Maoret - SERSIS - 3/28/2020 at 2:26 AM
Unanswered
From the changelog of BETA 7391 we read:

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Known Issues for this Build:
  • Sending "on behalf of” has issues. This refers to Delegate behavior.
  • Forwarding Contact Groups in MAPI is sending as an empty .EML.
  • Reports of W3WP process restarting when MAPI connects. (Unable to reproduce internally.)
  • Outlook for Mac (EWS) does not flag messages as forwarded or replied to correctly. (Open ticket with Microsoft).

So it seems that almost all problems are now solved.

Hence the question: can we now consider MAPI support as stable (more or less)?

How are users testing?

The only one that concerns me with the remaining items is the one they can't "fix" or replicate. That could create some serious customer support issues. Other than that I would consider it reasonably complete as the items left are minimal and could easily be handled.

"Outlook 2016 standalone/volume licensed versions are not acting as expected."

The above line is removed from 'Known Issues for this Build', so does it mean that Outlook 2016 standalone/volume licensed versions are now supported?

John, that issue would be us. We cannot use MAPI at all as it crashes the IIS worker process.

Echo,

I know you are the biggest install. For the rest of us we have to have stability, just as you do. If that can't be reproduced/fixed then we cannot tell out customers that we have this capability. We have already lost customers due to stating we would have this in the first part of the year and they in-turn dropped us for Office 365.

John,

Not sure if we are "the biggest", but we are certainly up there. It's crashed IIS for us since day 1 of testing MAPI back when the beta launched. It's been a roller coaster of devs working late, devs working on weekends, process dumps, tuning, running traces, Fiddler and on and on for the past almost 4 months. SmarterMail is finally in a good place for the most part, just have this issue with MAPI crashing IIS. It happens with just 1 user connected to MAPI. IIS will run for months without a twitch, but the moment MAPI starts being used it crashes within hours and will continue to crash until the Outlook install is shutdown.

Larry has been working to figure it out, but so far, nothing. Right now, our next option is to fully reinstall the server with a fresh Windows install and a fresh IIS installation. Just to see if it is something weird with IIS.

As Netmate asked, does the latest BETA still having problems with Outlook 2016 standalone/volume licensed versions?
Thanks

I have only tested the Outlook 2016 with one device and it worked fine.
It would not work on the same device before.

We did fix volume licensing last week. We've got another build coming out today with some additional MAPI fixes in it.
