Team Workspace needs Screen Sharing for Video Conferencing to be usable
Idea shared by Ionel Aurelian Rau - 3/6/2020 at 12:48 AM
Completed
Hi,

Ever since SmarterMail switched to its own video conferencing solution we`ve tried switching from using 3rd party tools for meetings, but nobody wants to use it due to lack of screen sharing. Video conferencing in SM is very simple, straight forward and easy to use, but everyone that tries it out immediately asks: how do I share my screen?

We really want to be able to use Team Workspace in SM and let go of 3rd party tools, but until screen sharing is not brought back, this feature is just sitting there on the side and everyone avoids it.

Please let me know if there is a plan to implement this feature in the "near" future (of course, I realize it will not happen until MAPI is out for good).

Browsers have been better about support for screen sharing lately. The early problem required a browser extension or plugin to allow screen sharing. This shows support https://caniuse.com/#search=getDisplayMedia for the modern mechanism allowing any site to do screen capture.

I've had issues too and the best I can tell is the video of trying to connect on a reserved IP space that should not be seen coming across a WAN connection.

A good firewall will properly block this traffic which is why video doesn't work between users on different networks. About the only setup that I've seen work well is if all users on on the same LAN segment or if all users are using their cell phones on LTE and not on wifi or VPN.

Without screen sharing  am afraid it will not be used so thats a must.

This has been brought by others before also. Why is this not listed as a known bug?

This and 2FA are the two features that I want to renew for. But the team workspace is still broke so I'll hold off a bit longer.

+1 native screen sharing would be great!

On a side note, are there benchmarks for bandwidth and resource usage for Team Workspaces video conferencing (e.g., video quality/number of participants)?

I really needed this today for a personal project. After some looking around I found a free PBX software called 3CX that has web conference, screen sharing, whiteboard, file share and even remote control. Works free for to to 25 people.

Smartertools should check it out and model it after that. It worked flawlessly for everyone.

Hi everyone,

In Build 7607 (Oct 29, 2020), screen sharing of windows, applications or browser tabs was added to Team Workspaces.

Is it anywhere on the roadmap to give keyboard and mouse controls through Team Workspaces when sharing screen? Is that possible?
