Ability to disable an administrator user

Would be cool if we could disable an admin user without having to set a silly IP restriction or removing the account.

Great idea and easy to implement.

Totally agree, a enabled/disabled boolean on admin users would be really useful.

Yeah, good suggestion

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your feedback! I'm curious why disabling the account would be preferred over removing it. The Administrator accounts store no data so there's nothing to be preserved in situations where the account may be used again in the future. Also, admin accounts also have a limited number of settings to configure, making them fairly simple to add back when needed. (That said, if you implement a large number of IP restrictions, I can see how that could take some time to re-enter them one by one. If that's the case, we may be able to improve the IP input in that area.)

Can you share the situations where you would choose to disable over delete? I'd be happy to get this on our discussions list; I'd just like to have a bit more feedback first.

Thank you!

For example... support accounts for SmarterTools. We’d disable when not in use and enabled when required rather than completely removing.

We are going to be adding this feature.  Expect it in the next beta release.

Good news and Christopher’s example above is exactly how we would use this feature too.

It will also allow you to disable a suspected compromised admin account... while investigations continue.

In Build 7459 (Jun 3, 2020) we added the ability for secondary System Administrator to be disabled.
