[Beta 7339] "Username has invalid characters" When creating New System Administrator
Problem reported by Shaun Peet - 2/5/2020 at 12:17 PM
Submitted
Tried to create a secondary administrator today on the latest BETA and cannot due to the error of "Username has invalid characters" error.  This is regardless of any characters which are in the username box.

I created admins as recently as a week ago on a previous version of the beta, so this is a new issue.

Being curious, I've tested this on our BETA build testing server (7339) and wasn't able to reproduce it.
I was even able to create admins with username like %!someuser!%

Have you tested with an alternate browser?

Hello,

Just wanted to check in and see if you're still having this issue. If so, could you PM me the name you are trying to add as an administrator so that I could test it. Thank you in advance.

Not an issue anymore.  This was the "fix" to maybe help understand & diagnose...

One the system administrators page I noticed that one of the other admins I had setup somewhat recently had a "created date" from many years ago.  Now, to be fair, I can't recall if I had actually renamed a previous account or created a new one when I recently updated that other user.  It also showed that the other user had never logged in, and the other user was also not even able to login.

So my "fix" for the other user was to delete that account (this was after several attempts to change that password) and then re-create it.  Once that happened, the other user's account worked fine again.

And then once that happened, I was able to create new users again including the one I was attempting to do when I started this thread.

In summary - it appears that if somehow one of the system admin accounts gets corrupted that it then prevents other system admins from being created.

Ok thank you for letting me know. I will add the system administrator corruption issue to our list.

Shaun, do you happen to have a backup copy of the "corrupted" administrators.json from Feb 10? If so, can you please send that to me?

I didn't know such a file existed until now :)  So I don't have a copy of it, but I'll see if it's easy to grab one from one of our backups.
