How do you send from an alias?
Question asked by David Lemmink - 10/31/2019 at 5:23 AM
Answered
I don't see anywhere in the interface where I can select the 'FROM' address.
This thread doesn't tell you how other than to select the from address from the pulldown.

David,

This is a setting that has to be toggled on by the domain administrator for that alias.  Please see below:

The new setting, Allow users to send from this alias, can be found when creating an email alias as a Domain Admin. When enabled, users can select the alias address when composing a new message by using the Send From dropdown.

I have enabled that but do not see the Send From dropdown in the compose window.

David,

That definitely sounds odd.  Since you have active Maintenance and Support on your SmarterMail license key, I've gone ahead and created a support ticket for you so that one of our technicians can take a closer look.

Just a quick follow up on this for anyone else reading! We were able to get this resolved, and believe the Send From button wasn't displaying due to cached web interface components. If you run into these issues in the future please try the following:

1. First, you need to adjust the configuration of the desired alias so that sending from that alias is allowed. Attached you will find a screenshot that shows the settings toggle that should be enabled to allow domain users to send through the alias account. These settings are found within Domain Settings>Accounts>Aliases. Once this toggle is enabled, all domain users who are included in the alias should see the alias address as an option in the SEND FROM dropdown when sending email.

2. Once the alias configuration has been adjusted users only need to select the Send From drop-down menu in webmail to choose this alias account when sending emails.
