Using 7082 Ent edition, iPhone X with latest iOS using EAS for my email account with contacts and calendar as well enabled. I have a contact sent to me through iMessage and I tap it and choose the option to create a new contact from this contact sent to me. I click DONE and it does not get added. I doubt this is an iOS issue, I suggest seeing if it's a SM/EAS issue.
