System Administrator accounts not able to login
Problem reported by John J - 2/13/2019 at 9:32 AM

I'm unable to login as a system administrator locally or remotely unless I reset my main system administrator account first.  I'm having to reset to default  using the mailconfig.xml even after half a day.  I'm not sure what to check.  Our mail site is hosted locally using IIS.  Thanks for any suggestions.

I solved it.  It ended up being an AVG scheduled task (emergency signature database update).  I'm not sure why it was affecting the config file, but disabling it fixed the issue.

Hi John,

I'm not sure it's a good idea to use an ACTIVE antivirus on a smartermail server, at least if it actively scans every opened file, mainly because if there is a virus in a mail your antivirus will quarantine a whole day of mails (mails are saved in daily files).
So one unique infected mail could potentially remove a whole day of mail content for your customer

I think though there are Windows defender tweaks when you install smartermail so it doesn't cause this, but not sure it's the case for other antiviruses, in fact 99% sure it isn't.
