Incoming spam quarantine
Idea shared by Jason Wilhelm - 2/1/2019 at 5:57 PM
Proposed
I would love to see an incoming spam quarantine setup. Currently we have anything that is considered spam LOW or MED as well as emails that have specific terms being forwarded to a specific account. A few times a day we then go and clean up that account. Would love to have something baked into the system for this. Generally we get 50-60 or so messages a day caught in there with 5 or so mislabeled as spam.

Hi Jason. Where did you want the spam quarentine to live? Did you want the spam to be held in a specific folder on your server so you can go in and review it manually by opening the .eml and .hdr files with a text editor? Or were you looking for something like Barracuda offers where the spam to an account that you can view as if it were an email box and you would have the option to release the false-positives?

Linda,
Thanks for the reply. We have not used barracuda before but that sounds like what we are looking for. Our old system Esoft Instagate had area you could get to in your browser where anything that was flagged as SPAM-LOW / SPAM-MED would sit in a queue waiting for us to go through. We could then preview the email in the browser much like using webmail. At that point we could verify that something was spam or release it as a valid email.
We have come up with the workaround of using a specific account to forward all SPAM-LOW / SPAM-MED tagged emails. We then get into that account a few times a day to release any valid emails. The issue with this is we also have a SPAM-TERMS rule that has any terms we deem spammy (ONLINE DATING, BITCOIN, SINGLES, etc). This works good but anytime we have a message that is caught by the spam terms that is actually legitimate we have to disable the rule, release the email, then re-enable the rule. If that makes sense.

A little background we are an automobile dealership so we do deal with terms that are sometimes inherently spammy like low interest loans, savings, limited time, etc so we do get our share of false positives.

My pleasure Jason! I would love to see this built into SM as well, but since SM is a mail server software dev company and not an antispam software dev company, I'm not sure how likely it is that they will add something like this. There are other places out there that offer this type of service and it can be used with SM. Would you be interested in an external provider for this type of service?

This would be a great feature! I get false positives from customers or vendors stating that their emails are getting blocked and that's because their email just barely makes it over the threshold as being declared SPAM. I would like the declared spam emails sent to a postmaster folder or such instead of the default of "no action" to "delete." Add another option to send to quarantine or postmaster or some other custom account so that they can be reviewed and filters can be adjusted if need be, etc.
