Static Folders On Side
Idea shared by John Marx - 1/10/2019 at 8:46 PM
Under Consideration
Within the web interface the folders show Inbox, Deleted Items, Drafts, Junk Email, and Sent Items. I propose three changes (in priority order).

  • Make this area static and the folders underneath as they are where they scroll. This way if I am a long way down folder wise I can quickly jump up to my Inbox, Sent Items, etc. without losing my place of where I was.
  • Secondly, being the top folders are static make right below a typing pane that allows to filter the list so that only certain items show.
    • This should also save the last filter the user did so that if they leave and come back that filtering is still there.
  • Thirdly, make it so that we can "Pin" folders below to this static area.
    • I know this could cause problems if people pin too much and why this is in priority order as you wouldn't be able to easily scroll the folders.
    • An alternative but think it would be too much coding would be limit it to 3-5 static folders.

Yes, Especially #3. Our clients have asked numerous times to allow for an Outlook "Favorites" type section.

John, thank you for that suggestion.  I can certainly see benefits in implementing some type of static folders and filtering.  I have added this to our suggestions list for further consideration by management and development teams.
