Update for v15?
Question asked by Paul Blank - 12/13/2018 at 1:16 PM
Answered
I believe there were a couple of issues reported with the last minor update to v15. Is there a build that fixes this?

One client of mine is now "officially" waiting for a break in their business season here to do a full version upgrade. Thanks!

Yes. Would be shocking to some, but their plan is to go there. Will be keeping an eye on this forum to help decide when the time is right.

Paul, stay away from SM17 right now. We have submitted more tickets in the last few days than I think we have in 10 years... (not really, but close). We have the devs in full overtime mode right now with all the issues we've had. Many being critical and stopping mail flow. Thankfully, they do seem to have a handle on a lot of the issues, but still, stay on 15 for now.

Thanks, Christopher. As I said, the forum here will be a good indicator of when it's a good time. We'll certainly wait if need be.

Webio,

We have had a handful of issues that most often affect isolated users on a server.  It would have been nice to have customers who are normally active in the community or are critical to have participated in the BETA.  Hint Hint :)

There have been a couple issues that have been server wide like the really large greylisting files that could cause high cpu.  Even in those scenarios SmarterMail functioned but just a little slower than normal.

Chris had a number of mailboxes on his server that had spaces in the folder names that caused mailboxes not to be indexed which also impacted IMAP.  Many of these folders didn't work in previous versions as well but because we have so much morel logging now, we can get a better idea of what is and isn't working.

The new SmarterMail  will point out MANY more issues your serves may have had in the past but because of our logging and how we walk every file to convert or fix, it will bring MANY more things to your or our attention.  That is the point of this version of SmarterMail, to kind of repair anything and everything that has existed for YEARS!

We had some pages that weren't updating with some stats like the IDS pages etc. on some installs.  The IDS rules we added for customers and added as defaults were not very well defined and the culprit some lost connections.  We were a little aggressive with our defaults and that will be changed.  These new rules should be used to help protect your servers.

Chris has also been seeing more things than others  because he has been installing test builds etc.  Customers who have been using public builds would have seen less.

There is no doubt, this is a HUGE release and how we get much more performance out of SmarterMail.  Chris's server is a good example on load times.  His server would take over 15+ minutes to startup and now its under one minute!

Tim,

It's good to see things are getting ironed out.

On our side we cloned (thanks to netapp snapshots) our 20k accounts and 5000+ domains v16 production server to attempt an update to v100 to find out where we are going.

The update process itself seems to be okay. Then we tried some functionalities that our users are using and found out the calendar "Add to outlook" is broken in v17 (outlooks says it's readonly, so no changes can be made and for some mailboxes it's not even able to attach it.)

We opened a ticket about it and it was confirmed that this can be reproduced by ST staff.
So for us, this is at the moment a blocker to go ahead and switch to v100.

Hopefully this will probably be fixed in the future after the other big issues are resolved.

Nicolas, we are aware that some contacts are responding as read-only in Add to Outlook.  We are looking into it.

Tim, well over a 15 minute start time lol. Try nearly 40 minutes. We now see SM17 start in just a few minutes. Extremely quick. Very pleased with the new SM 17 start time, this has allowed us to install these test builds and deploy before most customers even notice downtime :).

The real only issue that was killing us was the authentication issues with passwords saying they were expired when they werent or didnt meet complexity requirements when they did. Once we got that ironed out (which is fixed in 6921). It is now just a matter of cleaning up all the small issues.

So.. I was under the impression (from what I saw in this forum) that there were some CPU utilization issues with v15.7.6915. Is this not a thing, or has it been resolved? Thanks.
