User file attachments in the community portal
Question asked by Simon Sprott - 5/31/2018 at 10:31 AM

Is it possible to allow users to add attachments to the community threads within the portal.
If so where are the admin settings for this?

I believe that, by default, anyone can insert images into Community posts; there's no specific setting to allow/disallow it. That said, the allowed extensions for document uploads in HTML editor setting, found in Settings --> Configuration --> Security on the Uploads tab, is enforced for Community posts.

Thanks, but I can't see anywhere to actually upload a file (typically we want users to be able to upload zip files).
And I can't see any settings relating to it (other than the file type filters where you described).

Ah, I understand, Simon. The menu item shown on the left -- with the red circle -- is the "Add a file" tool. You should be able to use that:

OK, I see that in your portal, but the buttons don't appear in our portal. How do I configure ours to show these buttons?

What version of SmarterTrack are you on? Is it just the Add a File and Add an Image buttons that are missing, or are other buttons missing as well?

The first image is from our site (the add file/image button group is missing, all the other buttons are present).

The Add an Image and Add a File buttons were added to SmarterTrack as part of the initial 13.0 release. They are not available in 12.x. Without upgrading, you are limited to the Image and Embed Media Content from Various Sites buttons:

Unfortunately, these buttons will only help with media file types (video, audio, picture), and they require that the item being attached is accessible via URL.
