Would like wildcards in Domain Alias matching
Idea shared by David Sovereen - 2/28/2018 at 8:39 AM
Proposed
I would like to Domain Alias *.mercury.net to mercury.net and even *.*.mercury.net (in case that matters) to mercury.net.

The reason being that we manage lots of equipment across a network that spans Michigan and Wisconsin.  Most of our equipment has hostnames of things like servername.citystate.mercury.net.  Our devices are configured to email us when certain things need attention.  In some cases, devices are not configured correctly and so they might send an email to support@servername.citystate.mercury.net.  In other cases, devices might have a process thats gone haywire and just assumes root@servername.citystate.mercury.net is who to notify.  No matter how the the invalid To: address gets there, Smartermail is configured as the mail host, and the message gets to Smartermail, but Smartermail doesn't know what to do with it.  It sits in queue and eventually dies.

I added some servername.citystate.mercury.net Domain Aliases to cases where we are seeing this (as well as User aliases for "root" and others) and it is working, allowing these emails to get to support people who can fix the issues.  But what would make this more fail-safe would be wildcard Domain Aliases.

Thank you for your consideration,

Dave
