disable chat feature entirely ? Show as a room in chat ?
Idea shared by Joe Joe - 12/26/2017 at 12:05 AM
Under Consideration
Hi,

1. when system admin had disable the room chat feature for certain domain,
i entirely still find the room feature enable/disable button at domain level,
is it normal ? or bug ?
how can i disable it entirely ?

2. even i had disable the chat room feature for the entire domain,
no matter from system admin or domain admin.

when i go to the domain admin's Setting >> Accounts >> Aliases,
no matter new or edit exiting aliases,
i can still find the option "Show as a room in chat",
im not sure if it is a bug ?

thanks

Hi, Joe

1) Are you talking about live chat in SmarterMail or the Team Workspaces? If simply live chat, what version of SmarterMail is this on?

I've tested this in 15.x and 16.x and if live chat is disabled for a domain by the system admin, I don't see any ability to turn it back on as a domain admin much less use live chat itself. I do see chat history search, but that's to be expected as that's not removed from the menu if live chat isn't available.

2) This is by design. Checking the box won't do anything if live chat is turned off for the domain, however.

Hi,

it is SmarterMail Enterprise Edition Version: 16.3.6558

with my more testing. i had disable "chat (XMPP) (Enterprise Only)" at system admin for the domain

when login as the domain admin,

(1) i go to Accounts >> User Defaults,
the option "chat (XMPP) (Enterprise Only)" is still changeable.

(2) i go to Accounts >> choose certain account.
the option "chat (XMPP) (Enterprise Only)" is un-changeable,
but it does not been hidden,
i think it should be hidden.

because i had disable "chat (XMPP) (Enterprise Only)"
no matter User Defaults or account detail,
"chat (XMPP) (Enterprise Only)" should not be shown there,
is it correct ?

thanks

Technically, this is working by design. I don't think this is a bug, so I've changed the thread type to an Idea.

If live chat is disabled by a system admin, changing the live chat option for users really doesn't turn it back on. However, I can see the logic in hiding the option if live chat is off for the domain, so I'll mark this as "under consideration" for a future release.

Hi,

hope to solve the issue.
i think when the system give admin the button(function) to disable it at system level,
domain level should not find it and have the right to enable/disable it.

thanks
