How does it play with existing external accounts (existing smartermail email accounts with content)?

Do existing smartermail accounts need to be deleted, then created through the hosting control panel or can the module "connect" to existing accounts?

I've never tested that scenario. All of my testing of the module has been creating new users/domains, I have not yet tried attaching it to a user with an account already. I don't have much experience with WHMCS except for making the module. Maybe someone else can give us their experience with it, if this is something they've done before.

I believe that what I am looking for is something different from this module.

My goals are to replace the existing linux/cPanel mail service with smartermail so that my linux customers/users can run smartermail from within their linux hosted cPanel account. Smartermail is running on a dedicated mail server.

Over the past decade when I needed to do this I would just create a/mx records on the hosted domain that point to the mail server IP and handle all accounts manually in the smartermail UI.

I was hoping to take most of this "full hand holding" out of the equation and allow my customers the ability to do this themselves from within their hosting control panel.

This is mostly for customers that I needed to migrate from windows to linux hosting but who have become accustomed to using the smartermail webmail interface

From my searching I do not believe that anything like this is available.
