Broken links in email
Problem reported by William Blake - 7/1/2017 at 8:23 AM

Hello all,
I have 15.6.6347 installed and sometimes when I receive an email that contains a link in it and I click that link I find what opens in a new tab is broken (not complete). I would post a picture or link to an example of what I mean but my account does not have permission to post a URL. Anyway, If I view the same email in another email program (on my iPhone, for example) the link works as expected. Any idea why this is occurring? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Thanks!
Will

I've been running that version for about a month and I see no problems with links in webmail messages.  Tested in Chrome and Firefox.

We are running 15.7 and this is a CONSTANT problem for us. I've been trying to get everyone off MAC mail, (because mail sent from MAC doesn't always appear in the smartermail interface and we also end up with 3 sent messages boxes) however, you cannot send a link copied from the browser window through Smartermail without having it break. The link below we copied and pasted into an email in the Smartermail interface, it broke. Copied and pasted the same link into MAC mail, it delivered intact.
So, it is not the link, not user error. This is a glitch of some kind.

While the above represents what the link looks like in Smartermail, (I couldn's paste the actual text in here because hyperlinks are not allowed in posts) in the email the top line is a live link that can't complete properly and will give you a 404 message. The bottom line is not a link. The only way to use this link is to copy and paste it into the browser, removing the space at the break point. Not something staff here is interested in doing.

Thank you for the update. I guess I'm glad it's not just me. I'm spinning up vm that is running 16.x. Hopefully it is fixed in the next version.

Hello Will, do you have any kind of email filtering in front of the SmarterMail server? If you have an antispam/antivirus appliance or other spam service sitting in front of the mail server; it may be altering the links or headers in such a way as to prevent them from properly loading. Another option is browser extensions or the browser itself - have you tried this from a guest session or another browser to see if the links are broken there as well? If you continue to have issues with this after checking these items above, I suggest submitting a support ticket so we can take a closer look. If we determine the issue is caused by a bug, we'll refund the support ticket back to your account for use in the future. Have a great day!

Hello Kyle. I do not have any kind of email filtering or anti spam appliances running on the server. I do have AVG CloudCare Anti-Virus running on the server. I have checked it out with multiple browsers (Chrome, and IE 11) on multiple computers and in each case some links are broken.

One thing to note, when I receive email on my iPhone via the default iOS mail app, the links work fine. It is only when I view email via the web browser.

Has anyone found a cause/resolution for this.   I am running 16.3.6565.    Any mail sent through my server with E-Mail composed in a browser (yep have tried different browsers) with a hyperlink, the link will get corrupted when sent.   In many cases, when receiving a an E-Mail, if there is a link list as a simple hyperlink, the link is corrupted.   Often this corruption is so bad that I can't manually fix it.

Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.   This simply can't continue and I didn't have this problem with any of my previous installations (12.x, 14.x, 15.x)

Thanks.
