Outgoing Max Message Size for Domain
Question asked by Scott Hendrickson - 6/21/2017 at 2:16 PM

Hi Everyone!

For our SmarterMail 14, the system wide outgoing max message size limit is set to 20M.  However there is one domain for which I need to allow a larger limit.  I've put the limit I want into this domain's individual settings and clicked Reload on the domain's settings page, but it's still being limited to 20M.  And before anyone asks, yes, I have verified that the error is being generated by our system, not by the recipient's system.  Do I have to restart the service for this setting to be picked up properly for this domain???

Thanks!

Scott

Hi Scott.  Are you seeing this when using Outlook?  Outlook has a built-in maximum attachment size of 20Mb.  This limit can be increased through the registry.

Hi Rod:

Yes, they're using Outlook, but I've already changed the setting in their registries to match the size I've allowed for that domain.  I verified that it was SmarterMail and not Outlook by check the SM server logs, which would not have shown nothing had it been Outlook itself rejecting the message.  In fact I would guess that Outlook would show a pop up error, and the error we got was a bounce back email, not a pop up.

Thanks!
