Hi, Damir

I know Events are firing and sending notifications and emails for other items, such as disk space overages. We'll test out the new version Event. Thanks for pointing it out.

Damir,

Can you please look in your mailConfig.xml folder and check these lines:
<LastAlertedVersion>
<LastAlertedMajorVersion>
Let me know if they're blank or not. if they are NOT blank, what info is in those fields? If so, we'll have to check something else.

Thanks, Damir. That means that the check is against 1.0.0 of the product. So..the event should be firing. The developers are going to have to walk through the code to figure out what's going on. It's on their list of items to review. For the time being, we're announcing new builds of SmarterMail 16.x in the Community. ALL releases are announced in the News area of the Portal. Plus, for SmarterStats and SmarterTrack majors and minors, we send out emails notifying customers that new versions are available. SmarterMail 16.x minors will soon be added to that email schedule.

The issue isn't being ignored. It's on the list but there are additional items we're resolving at this point in time. As I mentioned, when a new version is available we're announcing it in the Community, and after the .1 release this week we'll be announcing versions on the Portal under our News items. So we will get this fixed, but I don't have a timeframe for you.

The issue with the new version available event not firing will be in the 16.1 release, which will come out later today.

Damir -- it does actually work. The event that fires notifying you of a new version is based off the RSS feed from our Portal. (Yes, that will eventually be changed so it ties into your Account with SmarterTools.) However, for the latest release we just added a News item...that's why you hadn't seen the banner in your installation: you updated prior to the news item being added. (EDIT: I corrected my past misstatement about News items and SmarterMail 16.x minors...)

Rest assured it does work as the developers looked at the code -- and this turned out to be a good thing as they had to modify some items based on the changes to the RSS Reader we re-built for the News Feeds section.
