Language's package
Problem reported by Jean-Luc Praz - 5/19/2017 at 10:21 AM
Resolved
I am writing just to voice my dissatisfaction about the release of SmarterMail 16.x without having the language's packages ready. My hosting provider upgraded to that version and as my users are Spanish speaker they are left in the dark. Provider is saying that as English speakers represent 99% of their customer it wasn't an issue for them.

Just chatted with SmarterTools' support and it appears that translation is even not in process, I have been told "The En.xml file is not ready for translating yet. We will be getting that ready in the near future. " !

I guess my clients will have to go for Google Translate !

This was a choice by your hosting provider. Software companies such as SmarterTools often release languages after major releases and add more languages as time goes on. We have also been very vocal so that customers are aware before they upgrade etc.

Of course it was a choice by my hosting provider but this doesn't help my customer. You and me Tim have been exchanging messages about languages' issues from the start of the century (I am client #27 at CT :-) by the way they didn't upgrade SM), I am a bit disappointed that a decade has past and still non-english speakers are left behind.

Anyway I have to give my client a solution so in order to make a decision I need to know 2 things: the 1st one is what is the aproximate date for the release of the spanish language package and the 2nd one is to know if it is possible to migrate messages from SM16 to SM15

One more vote to have Spanish language files ready. Tim Uzzanti, even when you are "vocal" about it, if you announce a multi-language collaboration platform, you should at least have the final product released with the main languages ready when you. In this internet-era, it seems like companies just like to "release" software bw/o being complete. Language files are a MUST, not an "add-on" that will be made available sometime in the future. This is not new, I have had to adjust past spanish language files because they are pooly translated or incomplete. ST is a serious company with thousands of customers, well, its time you hire a serious translator and get this done! Thanks.

I have to give my client a solution so in order to make a decision I need to know 2 things:

1) what is the aproximate date for the release of the spanish language package
2) is it possible to migrate messages from SM16 to SM15, I have got a hosting still using that version and I am planning to move my customer there and I would need to move messages from the old to the new email

1) 4 to 6 weeks.
2) You would need to use the IMAP Mailbox Migration.

Just wanted to add a quick update... Spanish, Italian, German and French translations will be available in the upcoming 16.1 release. Czech, Portuguese and Dutch are currently in progress and coming soon. For further updates on the language pack for SmarterMail, please see the following thread: https://portal.smartertools.com/community/a89358/update-smartermail-16-translations.aspx.
