Spf check failed due to null sender's ip

I am running Windows 2012 with Plesk 12 for hosting. I am using Smartermail 15.x for my email services. However when I send an email from test@rodgersgroup.com to bill@tomsprofessionalgroup.com it bounces back to me. The Rodgersgroup is running on another server which I also have smartermail 9.x on and access to that server to. The following error is noted in the error logs Spf check failed due to null sender's ip

Here is the SPF Record in DNS for thetomsprofessionalgroup.com v=spf1 ip4: mx ~all

Can someone tell me what this error means? I test both domains for SPF records and both passed. I don't know what else to do?
