Over the last few months we’ve been working feverishly on SmarterMail’s next major version, SmarterMail 16.x. We’ve teased some of the changes on our Facebook and Twitter pages, released a few interface mockups to the Focus Group members of our Community and recently revealed a SmarterMail 16 Sneak Peek on our blog. We've shown how SmarterMail is evolving from an interface perspective by improving the user experience and making the web interface more mobile friendly. Well, that’s not all we have in store...

We're happy to announce that SmarterMail 16 will introduce web conferencing! This means you'll be able to take advantage of features like video chats, group meetings, screen sharing and more! In addition, we're making improvements to the current group chat functionality by adding support for third-party chat integrations, plus the ability to preview linked images and videos directly in the interface.

Learn more about what we have planned and check out some of the concept mockups in our latest blog post, Web Conferencing and Group Chat in SmarterMail 16

Hello Tarkan. I have heard more recently that the SmarterMail 16 BETA should take place mid-to-late 4th quarter, perhaps around November.

Yes, looking forward to the new version in November. In the meantime, maybe we can get a minor with some items from the top 10 list?
  • enforce https redirection (although I think that can be done in IIS)
  • 2-factor authentication
  • groups for contacts
  • auto-clean up Deleted Items using date deleted
  • block file extensions server-wide
  • Customizable Webmail Client (completed in ver.16!)
  • use Contacts for Trusted Senders
  • etc.
Some of these items have been on the list for years and would really be appreciated by existing customers. And new customers would expect these as standard mail server features.

Thanks!

Can you give us some technology backgrounds about requirements for Web conferencing? or share some information? Will it be running on the same server with SM or it would be possible to run a dedicated server for web conference/web chat? If not, considering large deployments and taking off some IO from SM server would be beneficial for system admins.

Hello Hasan! I don't have those details at this moment... This functionality is in the beginning stages of planning/development. We'll be sure to send updates as they come!

I am hoping that these new features can be disabled if not desired, to save on system resources.
