Smartermail 15 Importing
Question asked by Francis Gibbons - 4/25/2016 at 9:10 PM
Answered
Hello All,

I am currently running Smartermail 9.x on a Windows Server 2015. I am going to buy Smartermail 15.x now but I wanted to know will SM 15 allow me to carry over SM 9 email accounts and data to 15? Is there any compatibility issues that you might know of?

Thanks,

Frank G.

We have a significant number of customers that reinstate their upgrade protection and upgrade from old versions each month.  It is a heavily tested process and customers even upgrade from 4.x and 5.x... Prior to 4.x we are a little skeptical and work with customers on those upgrades.

Be sure to look over the release notes for all subsequent versions and pay special attention to the lines that are labeled IMPORTANT.  These are the items that are substantial with the release and would be the biggest changes etc.  Here are the release notes.  https://www.smartertools.com/smartermail/release-notes/15

Why would I need upgrade protection if I'm buying a new version of SM? What does that offer me? And can I take my Smartermail 9 data over to 15 and would I need upgrade protection for that? Thanks for your help!!

Frank, Upgrade Protections for a license allows you to install any major version upgrade for 12 months at no additional cost. After 12 months you have the ability to renew your Upgrade Protection at 60% off the retail price of your license. If your Upgrade Protection lapses, you can still reinstate it at a savings versus having to purchase a new version at full retail price. So renewing or reinstating the Upgrade Protection for your license saves you money versus buying a new license. Since you're looking to upgrade from SmarterMail 9.x to 15.x it's wise to simply reinstate your Upgrade Protection for that license to a) save you some money, and b) be able to upgrade to 16.x for free when it comes out later this year.

And to answer your other question, yes all the data and accounts will move with the upgrade as long as you follow the Major Version Upgrade KB we have here: http://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2856/major-upgrade-of-smartermail.aspx
