IF a server runs out of space, and a new server is required to run beyond the server is a new license needed?

Hi Shivam,

Every instance of SmarterMail would require its own SmarterMail license. The only exception for this would be in the case of Failover, since only one instance is activated with the license key at a time.

If you replace your server with a new one, only one license is required. SmarterTools allows a grace period to use one license for two servers until a migration has finished. I usually write an E-Mail to SmarterTools to announce that we're migrate two servers with one licenses to avoid any misunderstanding.

Good indication to make, Martin! Using one license on both servers indefinitely isn't an option; however, if you're moving from one server to another, you have 30 days grace period where you can have the license on both to move data.
