Hey Reis,

Thanks for reaching out. This isn't currently supported in SmarterMail, so I went ahead and changed your Question to a Proposed Idea. Other users who agree with this implementation can show their support and get it in front of the developers.

As someone not-so-technical and unfamiliar with what this is, can you give a quick rundown? Having a better idea of what it entails could also help other users to know if this is something they'd like to see as well.

Thanks!!

BATV would reduce/eliminate bounced messages from messages you didn't send, but your email address was used as the sending or reply to address. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounce_Address_Tag_Validation

Every week or so we have an unlucky customer whose email address gets picked up by a spammer (or malware) and it blasts out thousands of messages to random people.  Our customer receives hundreds of undeliverable messages because the recipient doesn't exist, mailbox full, etc.

BATV would be a nice feature to add. Thumbs Up!

We too would like to see this feature implemented!

Hello Andrea,

The GreyList feature in the SM 14.5 does not support this. All messages from some IP that use the BATV becomes always in the greylist block period.

For the most part GreyListing handles BATV fine. It is only true that it has problems if either A.) the BATV Address changes between delivery attempts and/or B.) a different IP attempts redelivery.

The number of senders that use BATV that meet either of those criteria are pretty small and can be added to the Greylist Bypass in SmarterMail. We've had to manually add the following services to the GreyList Bypass because of one or the other criteria:

Constant Contact
Silverpop
StrongMail
SendGrid
ExactTarget
AppRiver
Responsys
Blue State Digital
Intuit

For years we accomplished similar by using Declude to add an X-Header to Outgoing emails, and then check Incoming NDRs for the presence of that X-Header. If the NDR messages did not include the X-Header we rejected delivery as Backscatter Spam. This worked great until we implemented DKIM in SmarterMail. Sadly, having Declude add an extra Header to Outgoing mail was breaking DKIM signed emails.

This is an old request, but I am bringing it back up to revive the issue.  BATV is the necessary tool to block fraudulent messages with null senders.   It can be applied by an outgoing gateway if the site has one, but if SmarterMail is going to be the outgoing gateway, BATV is needed.
