About 4 days ago our virtual server OS got corrupted. No idea what happened, but it stopped serving sites and ended up running MS ChkDsk a few times on its own. Crash and burn, could not get it running again.
Fortunately, we always set up our computers using multiple drives (for this exact reason)
The OS being drive "C", and all data on a separate drive "F". All of our website data and Smartermail data is on the "F" drive.
So we took a backup of the OS drive, and attached a current copy of the Data drive, and was back up and running in a few minutes. Almost everything "seemed" to be working ok.
Apparently, we have to do some repair of the domains. Fix new domains that were added after the backup was done. The email data is sitting there on the F drive, but smartermail can not see it. Looks like we have to add it (the domains) back in to smarter mail ?
So, this begs the question. How "Self Contained" is smartermail's Data ?
So far i have not had any problems sending or receiving emails to other domains or mailboxes,
But domains created AFTER the last OS (drive c) backup was done, smartermail does not even show there is a domain for it in the admin console, even though the data is sitting right there on the F drive.
Is there a way to get SmarterMail Data to be FULLY self contained ? have ALL data for smartermail on drive "F" with the exception maybe being a single file on the OS drive to tell it where the main data is for Smarter Mail.
This would make, making backups and recovery a LOT easier.
