System Messages - What are the variables I can use? Can I test?

Two things:
 
I host six different companies on this server and to keep it looking professional, I need to add a link to the portal that has their domain in it. Is there a variable that I can use for that?
 
Also, how can I test the system message to see how it looks?

All System Message variables are displayed in a drop-down box, Variables.
 
We have no way of testing the System Message but you could make a mockup system message in an email and get it how you like it, then replicate it in the System Message.

Ya, I saw the four options in the predefined variables. none of them however can do what I need. It would be great if you guys could allow us more customization.

to update this if we want a varible for customer's domain what would it be?

ie in system message if i was to say: your domain name  is abc.com  what variable would I use for abc.com ?

@Chris, in the editor toolbar there is a cog icon. Pressing that will reveal the variables available for the specific system message you are editing.  See the screenshot below for an example:
