How To Do Advanced Searchs in SmarterMail
Question asked by Jeremy Wesley - 7/15/2015 at 6:39 AM
Unanswered
Ive been using SM for a few years, and I have never been able to do advance searches that yielded any results worth using.

Is there some indexes that I was suppose to setup? I find that I never get the results I am suppose to get.

Is there a Document, video or webinar that talks about how the advance search works?

I've tried a few search patterns that other software packages use ,Quotes, wild cards but I spend way to much time trying to figure out what works and what doesn't

Can someone set me on a path to clarity.

I had this same complaint for a long time.  Smarter mail still can not find an email address, any email address, from the "Advanced" search box.

If you look at the text box where you are supposed to type, Then, look directly above it hidden in the blue bar, it says "Search - Everywhere"
One would think that "everywhere" literally means... well..   you know.... "everywhere"   Apparently that usage is some other language meaning.
Click on that "Everywhere" and change it to "email"
You will then see a new option to "Add criteria"  Click that and add what you want to search for.
Now you can search.... "everywhere"

yea i saw that too, I've used it but it seems you have to put in both text to search everywhere and the email in order to get any results. Very confusing.

Advanced Searches in SM Still Not Working?

So I found this 3+ year old thread and it seems that Advanced Search still doesn't really work.  I'm running Build 6964 (Jan 25, 2019) and after spending over an hour hunting around trying to find some emails that definitely exist, searching on various fields (email addresses, subjects, text strings etc.) with known good queries that should definitely work, and I still got nothing relevant back.  Does this feature really not work?

Hi Brantz.
Here are a few other related threads.  I keep asking if it has been fixed and get no real response. we are still using version 14.
and

Also,
I find that i sometimes have to tell smartermail to "reindex" a mainlbox for it to find results.  Even if you are looking right at an email, if the indexing gets mucked up it cant find mail. Apparently it does not search raw content but some internal database it builds

That Worked!  Thanks Curtis!!

I followed these steps:

1. Log in to SmarterMail as a System Administrator.
2. Click the DOMAINS icon.
3. Click on the desired Domain, and the domain settings will display.
4. Click on the Manage button, which will automatically Impersonate the Domain Administrator and drop you at the Users list.
5. Select the desired user and click Reindex.

It would be great if reindexing could be scheduled to automatically occur every so often.  I've looked for that feature and can't find it, but if it's already there, it would be great to know - otherwise, I think it would be a good feature request.  Thanks.

Suggest that as a feature. Scheduled reindexing.
