Native Android App for Smartertrack
Idea shared by Robert Skillings Jr - 10/13/2014 at 3:59 PM
In Progress
Hi Everybody,

Our Company loves using SmarterTrack but the biggest complaint is the lack of a native Android Application to interact with our Tickets while on the go. We find the Mobile Web Browser clunky and complicated for quickly checking our tickets and updating the tickets. It would be nice to have a native application that we can open that has a better UI design that shows the status inside the App. I know that a Mobile App is what has caused similar companies I have worked at to switch to an inferior helpdesk software.

A very helpful feature.  Although the mobile client is a huge plus, an app would be great.  The current method of scrolling around the screens and all the jumping between sections of the ticket needs some improvement.

Still love the flexibility this product gives us, just want it to be even better!

I would say a Mobile App would be appreciated, for both iOS and Android platforms. Not just Android.

Android first. Apple has enough people catering to them. Besides, IT support staff don't use Apple. ;-)

Uh yeah sorry, my first comment still stands. I've been in IT for a very long time and I use Apple. I am not a Mac fan, but I do love Apple's mobile platform, much better than Android IMO. ;-)

One vote for a more native mobile apps for SmarterTrack as the built in mobile currently is really not mobile optimized.

Hello everyone,

We met this morning to discuss the requested features list for future versions of SmarterTrack. It has been decided that a mobile app for SmarterTrack is not on the roadmap at this time.

We'd like to thank for your participation on this thread. If plans for the future change, we will be sure to post an update here.

Thank you,

Hello,

I would really hope you guys reconsider the app idea. I agree with the others, as the mobile site does not provide push notifications. I have used freshdesk, zendesk and currently trialing SmarterTrack and love it, but also looking at Kayako because of the app. We need push notifications! I have used SmarterMail for over 8 years and would love to use SmarterTrack too. Without an app, I may have to go elsewhere.

Thanks

Hi Everyone,
I am toying with the idea of building an iOS app for Smarter Track.
Why iOS and not android? Because it is what I use, and I know how to develop for it. I don't have any personal resources for android.

I'm thinking of making the app $4.99 to help cover some of the cost.

For me the features would be focus around replying to tickets using the iOS UI instead of a browser.

Here is a list of critical features IMO.
-Create new tickets
-Reply to Ticket
-Insert Canned reply
-Ability to Favorite department or groups
-Merge Tickets
-Close Ticket
-Schedule for follow up
-Transfer Ticket

I would need some beta testers if anyone is interested.
What features would the masses feel necessary?

Since SmarterTools has declined to build this, I think we can setup up as a community and build our own.
We live in the age of APIs.
Thoughts?
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Count me in for beta testing I’ll help any way I can, push notifications would be great help somewhere down the line.

Lack of mobile app for SmarterTrack is the sole reason why we are now shopping for a new system.  Unfortunate to see this system not being developed to stay up with modern needs.

It's honestly so cheap and easy to get a solid mobile app built for your platform, should certainly have been done by now.  The mobile version is nowhere close to competitive to other modern ticket systems.

Jeremy,  you could charge $10.99 easily, and many many of us would buy.  I have 13 employees, I'd instantly buy it for.

I have 99% decided to start developing this in 2021. I am looking for beta testers.
I don't plan to charge anything for the app in the beginning. Maybe once its stable and has cloud powered notifications I will charge an annual fee for the cloud services. If you are interested in helping me test, please let me know.  The early dev will NOT be a full feature app but allow agents to at least be able to view and reply to tickets.

I understand that every startertrack config is different and the more testers the better it will be.

I will be using xamarin so I should have iOS and droid support

Thanks
Jeremy

Yes, I have. I update almost as soon as possible to test the mobile usability. Every time I am sadly disappointed.

Responding to tickets in a text box in a website just does not work. Countless times I have used Siri to dictate a response then have to squeeze in stretch to get to buttons and then I accidentally pull down too far and refresh and lose everything.

I do not disagree with your two points. Yes I have already bookmark the page, and I actually already have text messages that are sent to me when tickets are assigned to me. It’s the usability of the web app on a mobile device that just isn’t where it needs to be. I have an iPhone 12 pro max.

I have been using Zoho desk which has a mobile app. I love their mobile app, I despise their web app.

there are some people that are completely happy with the web app on the phone. I have seen countless software companies decide not to deliver a native mobile app experience, and they tend to suffer from a user experience standpoint. Sales also tend to suffer because when asked if they have a mobile app and the answer is not a straight up YES, and the competition does have a mobile app, the software vendor is quickly overlooked.

I am happy that the web app works for you, but it appears that some of us just aren’t happy with it.

Well, it took a bit longer than anticipated, but SmarterTrack Mobile is now in beta for both iOS and Android devices.

"The SmarterTrack mobile app is a perfect complement to the desktop / tablet version of SmarterTrack. It allows agents and managers to reply to tickets, respond to live chats, manage tasks, and log calls wherever they are and whenever they're needed. "
