How do I export my old emails from SmarterMail
Question asked by Tamsin Hewer - 10/10/2014 at 10:28 AM
Unanswered
I have a client with an old mailbox on SmarterMail and a new account for the same email address on 123-reg.  There doesn't seem to be a simple way of exporting emails from SmarterMail so I've tried creating an account in Outlook in order to retrieve all the emails, but it won't accept the mailbox settings - I assume this is because the email address is no longer 'live with SmarterMail and now resides on the 123-reg servers.

Can anyone suggest how I can export all these emails from SmarterMail?

Many Thanks

Create a new user on another domain and then transfer the email on the SmarterMail server to the new user on a non 123 domain.

If you have an account on the SmarterMail server that is a valid domain on the SmarterMail server you could simply use the Mailbox Migration feature of the webmail system. Then transfer them to 123.

You will not be able to transfer them if you have no access to the server.

If you wanted to use the Mailbox Migration it would have to be from another account on an active domain on the SAME SmarterMail server. If you don't have that then another way would be to simply create a DNS "A" Record on your domain and call it something like mail2 or oldmail and point the IP Address to the SmarterMail server. You would then use the SMTP server name as mail2.yourdomain.com and use your old username and password. You could then download all the messages via POP3 or IMAP.

If you're just a user and don't have access to the old SmarterMail server or DNS on your current domain you could simply use the IP Address of the SmarterMail server as the SMTP server.
