I just installed SmarterStats 10.2.5598 and it wiped out the IIS MRS folder files.

 

There's just config files and a site file, like it uninstalled the old version, but then didn't install the new version. In case this is significant, my SmarterStats installation is on drive D:, not drive C:, but this hasn't affected previous installations, nor did it affect the latest upgrade to SmarterMail.
