no alert/reminder shows when a new version is released

I installed smarterstats on a server many years ago and, whenever a new version of software was available, a message stating that a new version was available appeared when logging in.
 
The original server died so I set up a new one, configured in exactly the same way but with a different name, installing smarterstats in exactly the same way but I never get reminders on this server.
 
I have uninstalled and reinstalled but nothing makes any difference.

You mentioned that you never get reminders on this server. Just to confirm, you don't get any of the reminder pop ups or just ones that have to do with new versions? When you log in, click on Reminders in the upper right corner. Do you see any messages in the reminders pop up? If you do, I'd check your pop up blocker on your browser. It could be blocking the automated pop up, making it so you have to check your Reminders manually with that button. 
 
If you're not receiving the pop up Reminders and your pop up blocker isn't enabled, this may be a bug in the software. In the mean time, you can keep updated on new versions by following our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus), checking the News feed regularly or making sure your account email preferences don't block emails from SmarterTools.

I don't get any alerts/reminders in smartertools but I do get them in smartermail which is also installed on this server. One difference which may account for that being that smartermail was never installed on the original server just on this one.
Updates:
I forgot to say that, when I click the reminders button in smarterstats, a pop-up window opens but there is never anything in it.
 
I have been manually checking for and installing updates but it is just a bit frustrating that a feature which used to work flawlessly no longer works.

I uninstalled SmarterStats from my server and copied the contents of c:\program files (x86)\smartertools\smarterstats to it from the hard disk out of the old server.
 
I then installed the previous version of SmarterStats and left it alone for a week or so before logging in again. To my surprise, I got a message to say that there was a new version available.
 
I don't suppose this is a supported method of resolving the problem but it seems to have done the trick. I just hope it stays working.

I'm glad it's working for you again! If you have any trouble again in the future, please consider opening a support ticket to have this looked into. Keep in mind, if the issue is caused by a bug in the software, your ticket will be refunded.
