Possible Corruption Problem With SmarterMail and Thunderbird
Problem reported by ScottF - 2/13/2015 at 9:44 AM
Resolved
Hello,

I have an open ticket with SmarterTools on this. So far SmarterTools can not reproduce this problem on their end. I was wondering if anyone else could reproduce this problem. I reproduced with:
- Thunderbird 31.2, 31.4
- SmarterMail 13.1, 13.2 Free, Pro and Enterprise
- Windows 7, Windows 8.1

1. Set up new account in SmarterMail. Disable greylisting to speed up delivery.
2. Setup up the new account in Thunderbird with IMAP
3. Exit and Restart Thunderbird. Subscribe to all folders.
4. Send test message from external mailbox (Hotmail, Gmail, etc) to new account
5. Create new folder in Thunderbird off the root
6. Move test message (from step #4) to folder
7. Rename the new folder in Thunderbird
8. Send another message from external mailbox to SmarterMail mailbox. Make sure message is delivered by checking delivery log.
9. Exit Thunderbird
10. Login to webmail
11. Two blank "no subject/no sender" messages are in the Inbox

Thanks,
Scott F.

Scott, because this issue was a problem (bug) with a fix, I am going to change this thread to a Bug and change it's status to Resolved.

Hi Robert. When do you expect the next build to be released? I have enough people on Thunderbird that this will certainly an issue when I upgrade to v13.

Paul, I can't say as to when the next minor will be released; however, if you contact our support they can give you the custom build that fixes the issue. BTW it is not a unique issue with Thunderbird itself but instead a general bug with renaming folders using the IMAP protocol.

Thanks, Robert. I have had several issues with people renaming folders with Thunderbird, even on previous releases of SM. Whenever possible, I try to rename the folders using SM webmail, and have had better results this way. And yes, I will contact support for a custom build.

In version 13, and also with earlier versions I notice problems with thunderbird. From time to time the most recent messages in the Inbox are lost (i get messages with no subject and no body). The last time it happened I just deleted a folder outside of Inbox...

Still seeing this with SM V11 on one Mac (running TBird / Yosemite). Happens with some regularity. Driving the user crazy.

Shouldn't this say being fixed until it's actually conformed as fixed?

Paul your statement seems off base, the fix was never going into v11 since that's two major version behind the current.

Steve, I only made the comment after the exact same issue was reported with v13. At that point it was clear to me that it was not fixed.
