Issue using an External Spam Filter with Smarter Mail

I currently have all of my email routed through a separate external spam filter before it's sent to my smarter mail server (12.4). I have smarter mail configured to look for Abuse Detection for DDOS protection (100 connections in 20min and 60 connections in 10min). Since all of the mail coming to my smarter mail server was going through the spam filter first, smarter mail would block the IP of my spam filter. So I added the IP address of the spam filter to the white list in smarter mail. The problem I'm running into now is that sometimes spam gets through the external spam filter. I'd like to use smarter mail's spam filter settings in addition to the external spam filter. But any mail coming from the spam filter bypasses all checks because the IP of the external spam filter is white listed. So I guess my question is, is there a way to white list an IP from the ddos protection but not from spam checking.

Hi Jason,

There is a setting to check white list IP for spam.  Login as the system admin and go to Security | AntiSpam Administration | Options tab and make sure "Disable spam filtering on SMTP whitelisted IP addresses" is not checked.
